Exercise #1: 2D Design Elements & Key Colors

In this exercise, the student is required to compose a design that focuses on the 2D design elements as well as using the acrylic gouache in order to create low, mid and high color keys.

The nine design elements being dot, line, plane, volume, shape, space,  texture, value, and color.

As for the high, mid, and low keys, we’ve created a range of values to demonstrate this.img_0302

These color keys were also demonstrated by replicating a design and using the acrylic to portray these range of keys.

Project: Illuminated Name

In this project, the student is supposed to create a design based on their name’s initials. The initial is meant to be surrounded by a design based on the Book of Kells and the Golden Ratio. Overall, I fell as if I’m learning more about watercolor than I already have. Even though I have little to no experience with watercolor, I still felt as if I learned a new way to use watercolor. Using shape, movement, and color is what I hope to capture the viewer throughout my design. I hope to get better at using watercolor in the future.
