In this assignment, the focus was to display an endangered animal of our choice and conveying a sense of fluidity. In my design, my animal of choice was the endangered red fox. While I wanted the snow leopard to be the domineering factor of the design, I wanted the red panda to be overlooked or controlled by the predator. What worked really well was the sense of form shown by the two animals. What could’ve worked a lot better was the variation of different lines and contrast. Overall, the design feels flat, but there is a sense of movement shown within certain areas.

In this week’s journal assignment, we have to draw geometric shapes from the studio on newsprint paper with charcoal. Another assignment has us doing a sketch of a hallway, which is supposed to focus around one-point perspective.

“My 10th Birthday” Accordion Book Ink on 5’x3′ Arches & Rives
In this composition, the student is required to compose an accordion book about a linear day. The overall theme of my work has to do with my tenth birthday, and I decided to use ink for this assignment. The main element of this design that I decided to use was value, mainly to show importance in certain areas of my design.
I attempted to portray unifying elements through the lightness and darkness of certain portions of my composition so that it may all come together. Essentially, it makes it dreary which was the point.
Contrast between the light and dark values are also a very part of my composition, mainly to show a certain gradient. The overall dark mood was what the composition needed in terms of effectivity.
A gestalt principal which I found to be the most prominent was proximity. Proximity I feel was the most prominent in a few pages in my design. I tried experimenting with the ink as well as the paper to see any interesting effects that might occur throughout the process.
I could’ve done the overall project a bit more professionally and I could’ve done the craftsmanship a bit better. Despite that, I learned a lot while doing this assignment mainly because it opened me up to new things.
