“I Loved Candy” (11/30/18) Research Poster 18×24

In this assignment, the student is required to brainstorm many different themes that the student may use in their 18×24″ research composition. Choosing that one theme, the student is then supposed to create a medley of different aspects into one composition while sticking with said composition.

Design Ideas

When brainstorming the many different ideas, I took into consideration of what I could work with the most. Video games being the second most, but the design would be as tacky and generic a plenty of other people who may have designed something similar to what I could have done.

REsearch Document Final-01

For the design, I chose candy mainly due to its unique and colorful appearance, then taking it into a somewhat dark tone or worn out appearance. Using darker than normal colors, I was able to bring out the dreariness of the typography within my composition. My concept is meant to reflect the overall mentality of candy and how we as people grow with it as well as see it in our daily lives. For the typography itself, most candy brands use this to navigate through its consumers, so I took that and made it a lot less important as it should while retaining some type of its importance and flow. What I hoped to achieve in this design is a new type of “experiment” or playing with my perception things and showing it in such a way that it forms something that personifies authenticity creativity.  What fails, however, is the ability to retain an in-depth analysis of my topic and using more that show that candy means a lot more than just logos and diversity.

“Endangered Animal Phenakistoscope” (12/8/18)

In this assignment, the student is required to study the phenakistoscope, which an old style of animation. The topic of our design is supposed to be based around our previously used endangered animal and the animal is supposed to evoke movement. Being my first time making this form of animation, I can say it was difficult, but I was able to achieve at least some form of movement within the endangered animal. However, what lacks in this design is the overall composition and execution of the animation. What could work a lot better in the composition is the lack of assets being featured in the design. As for the design itself, the eyes are meant to represent a snow tiger, which is one of the many threats of the red panda. As for the red panda itself, I wanted to show a top view of the red panda which is meant to evoke curiosity as it looks towards the snow tiger’s wandering eye. The bamboo in the outermost rim of the composition is meant to evoke security towards the red panda which is wandering outwards from the bamboo and into the threat.

Project 1: Photography & Drawing

The first portion of this project is focused around photography, capturing point, line, and shape within our photos.

Narrowing down our thirty photos to only six, we reference and muster them into designs that include shape, line, and point.

Then using our thumbnail designs, we were able to create a final composition in  18″x 24″ paper.HPSC5111
