In this assignment, the student is required to compose an illustration that captures the essence of movement through nature and everyday life. Whether this is portrayed through nature, the environment, and it’s people; this assignment is up to the artists discretion.
For my work, I studied the basic geometric, rigid shaping of the trees and its diverse color palette that brings about the drastic shift of autumn’s colors. This includes burgundy, red, greens, and green-yellows.
Preliminary works include physical work and a gradient study, which would portray this “shift”. I was determined to portray this shift through oil pastel and acrylic paint. However, thinking outside the box is portraying a kind of blend or shift that can incorporated in my non-representative piece.
For my final piece, I have decided to capture a portion on what makes Alfred’s autumn colors unique and shifting to rigid form that encompasses the myriad of colors stored at the background. What could have been better about the piece was the delivery, as the full extent of autumn’s beauty is muffled in the final. Though my aim was to make these colors apparent, it does play a part in everyday life as the environment symbolizes change. Blends aren’t as noticeable as I would like it and would prefer to remove the blues within this piece as it is distracting.
