Burden, 2016 Video

In a short film about the late artist, Chris Burden, many of his pieces and exhibits evoke particular meaning or emotion. In my interpretation, his methods could only be considered expressive as well as a new way to look at 3D sculptures.

In Burden’s “5 Day Locker Piece”, Burden explores the capabilities of himself by sort of caging himself in a locker. This experiment was essentially the beginning of what would be his further analysis of 3D posture and expression.

This piece was important to me because it tests the limits of form during the time and with Burden, his work could only progress and contort erratically.
